Powder Compass

Season outlook · 26/27

What does the 26/27 season look like?

Twelve windows, 96 mountains, ten winters of record. For each half-month we counted how many mountains actually cleared their bet — not what a brochure promised, not what a model guesses. Against a 24″ bet, the strongest stretch of the season is Jan 1–15, where 23 of 96 delivered in 8 of the last 10. How our odds work.

The season, in order

The bet is 12″ of new snow per week, scaled to each window's length. A mountain "cleared it" in a season if that window delivered the whole figure.

Read the bet, not just the count. Scaling rounds to clean steps, so the 16-day windows ask 30″ where the 15-day ones ask 24″ — a quarter more snow for one extra day. Counts compare cleanly between windows carrying the same bet; across different bets they don't, and we'd rather say so than let a bigger number look like better snow.

That's the season. What's yours?

This page is the whole mountain range's season. Yours has a days target, a home mountain, a drive shed and a few weekends you can't take off — and those turn twelve windows into a handful that are actually yours. The planner builds that calendar, window by window, with the odds on every slot.

These are historical odds from real winters — not a forecast. Inside 16 days of a trip a forecast is the better instrument; beyond that, counting seasons is the honest play. Every number on this page is quoted under methodology v1.2.0, the same math we grade ourselves against in public.
