Field notes
Five peaks with huge above-treeline acreage off the Imperial and Kensho lifts — some of the highest chair-served terrain on the continent — and a T-bar zone that hides the best snow. Below treeline it's long, busy intermediate boulevards feeding a genuinely great Victorian town.
Summit County density: expect people. The altitude is real, and it bites lowlanders on day one. Town lodging is walkable and abundant, and the in-town gondola kills parking stress. High winds shut the good terrain regularly — keep a Plan B peak in mind.
